This spring break I took a cruise to the beautiful Bahamas. It was my first time to the Bahamas and I was in owe of the clear water and the softest white sand I have ever felt. It was a hot, sunny day on Nassau, and as soon as we got off the boat we were ready to hit the beach. My fellow spring breakers and I went to a beach that offered endess drinks out of coconuts for $20, such a bargain!

After a long day in the sun, enjoying our coconut drinks, it was time to pack our bags and head back to the cruise ship port. While I am packing up, I began to notice that near our stuff there were straws in the sand that weren't ours, but that needed to be picked up. As I'm cleaning up those straws, I start to notice them everywhere. Within a minute I was holding nearly 40 straws. It wasn't just straws that were the issue. Just about anything people didn't want any more was simply left behind, from bottles to plastic bags. The worst part about this litter is that every single person walks past garbage cans on their way off the beach.

For someone who loves the beach and the ocean, it was hard to see how it could be treated so poorly. With a view like this it shocks me that people could not appreciate it. When I got back home I still was thinking about the polution problem and looked into it further.

Leave the world a little better than you found it.
